How to Measure a Room for Flooring
Measure the actual floor surface, split irregular rooms into simple shapes, add the areas, then apply waste separately.
Rectangular rooms
Floor area = length × widthA 5 m × 4 m room has 20 m² of floor area.
Irregular rooms
Divide the floor into rectangles, calculate each area and add them together. Measure alcoves separately and exclude permanent areas only when they genuinely will not be covered.
