Flooring Calculator

Measure a room, add your own waste allowance, then convert the purchase area into whole packs using the coverage printed on your flooring product.

Flooring required

Flooring area and pack formula

Purchase area = length × width × (1 + waste rate)
Packs to buy = ceiling(purchase area ÷ coverage per pack)

Pack coverage is entered by you because laminate, engineered wood, vinyl plank and other products are packaged differently.

Worked example

A 15 ft × 12 ft room has 180 ft² of net area. At 10% waste, plan for 198 ft². If one pack covers 22 ft², 9 packs are required.

Why waste is editable

Room shape, cuts, board dimensions, installation direction and pattern can change the extra material required. Use a project-appropriate allowance and verify the product coverage before purchasing.
