How Much Insulation Do I Need?

Start with the net area you need to cover, add a project-specific allowance, then divide by the coverage stated for the product you plan to buy.

Basic method

Purchase area = net area × (1 + allowance rate). Exact packages = purchase area ÷ coverage per package. Round whole packages up.

Example

If the net area is 60 m², you allow 8% extra and the product covers 8.3 m² per pack, the purchase area is 64.8 m² and the exact pack count is 7.81, so you would plan for 8 whole packs.

What changes the quantity?

Openings, awkward cuts, repeated bays, damaged pieces, offcuts, product format and package coverage can all change the real purchase quantity. Use the coverage printed for the exact product rather than a generic assumption.
